The Age Old Question of Age Appropriate.
Diane Pollack
I was recently interviewed by Shoe Retailing Today for an article on age appropriate clothing. They categorized my answer as a "definite maybe". When I thought about it, I would have to agree. Below are some of the highlights of the article.
- As women get older, sometimes being trendy is no longer important to them. If however, they want to keep up with the trends, I think they absolutely should. But there are someguidelines to keep in mind.
- As you get older, the distinction in trend is now about sophistication. For example, if a women wants to wear green nail polish as a trend, she should, but go for a greyed down shade like a sage and not a neon green.
- If an older woman wants to be sexy; she absolutely should be. The definition of sexy changes with age. A leather pencil skirt is sexy, a cutout-all-over-the-place top may no longer be appropriate or sophisticated.
- I do not believe in hard rules. When a woman turns age "X". She can not wear "Y". Often it depends on personality and body type. Tina Turner can rock a mini skirt way better than some twentysomethings will ever be able to .
My bottom line is - if an older woman keeps it sophisticated, she can make it work.
