Has This Ever Happened to You?

Diane Pollack

Last week, I ran into an old friend that I had not seen for about 10 years. Wow, amazing right?

Well after our encounter, I thought to myself "How did I look?"

Remember after not seeing someone for a long time, how ever they see you at that day, at that moment, is going to be how they see you as looking all the time, right?

Well luckily, I was on my way to an event, fresh makeup and wearing a bright orange blouse, that I got a few compliments on later that evening. So my answer, was " yes, I looked pretty damn good".

I had passed the test and my outfit had passed the test. Phew!

(Especially, since I forgot to mention that the woman I ran into always looks super stylish and well dressed herself.)

Let's turn around the scenario for a minute and play with that test.

You see when I am on the fence about getting rid of something in my wardrobe, one of my mental tests is just that.

Pretend that you accidentally ran into someone on the street that you wanted to look really good for. It could be an X-boyfriend, someone you went to high school with etc. Would you pass the test? Would you feel great running into them on the street wearing that item?

Easy, if the answer is "no", then you need to get rid of that item. It may be Fine but it is definitely not Fabulous! Remember, we are trying to create a closet of clothes that you feel fabulous in and that item is not it!

So the moral of the story is...
1) You always want to look your best, you never know who you may run into.
2) If you are not sure about keeping an item, play the scenario over in your mind and see if the item passes the test and if you would feel confident running into that old someone.
