Yes, I have Wardrobe Challenges Too
Diane Pollack
Every year after Labor day, there is the coming excitement of fall, and to me, that means the change of closet and a new fall wardrobe. I am not going to lie and say that this year is exactly the same.
Yes, you will need to change your closet, and there are some new items that you probably need (possibly different than your usual fall shopping list). As we still hang in limber, I admit, it all seems a little unclear.
Yet the other week, as the temperature started to dip, I did feel my usual desire to check out what was up in the closet for fall. Yay, to seeing my favorite camouflage pants again. I know the weather will fluctuate for a while, but that breeze of cool air was an inspiration to me and still gave me the feeling of "fall fever", as it does every year.
Believe it or not, I have wardrobe challenges too. For me, the change of season is always a difficult time for shoes, I am not a ballet flats or slip-on sneakers kind of girl. I love my heels!. I feel dumpy in sneakers and flats and am secretly jealous of all you ladies who look so cute in them.
My go-to in the past few years has been open toe booties for everyday dressy. But what to wear for a casual day especially when it is wet out? Two years ago, I had accidentally found, a perfect shoe solution. As much as I love them, they are very specific and don't go with everything.
Last season, I tried and returned 2 similar pairs in other colors, that I thought made my small foot look like a "flipper foot". This year, I continued my search and found 3 similar pairs, I choose one.
Although I don't love them like the first pair, they fit the bill, it is a necessity in my wardrobe for casual and especially rainy days when an open toe, suede boot with a heel just won't do.
As I read, what I just wrote, I find it contradictory to most of what I tell you. I am usually saying that you want to surround yourself with a wardrobe that you feel empowered in. Don’t settle for Jell-O when you should have a wardrobe that is more like decadent chocolate cake (or insert your favorite dessert here).
In this instance, because I have been searching for so long, and this year more than ever, I need a casual throw on shoe, more to do errands in than to be dressed for the day, I am settling for something in between. But honestly for most items that aren't a challenge in your wardrobe, GO FOR THE DECADENT CHOCOLATE CAKE.
Why am I telling you all this? Because frankly, this season is just different. I wanted to pop into your inbox and just connect with you and tell you a personal story about my wardrobe struggles.
Think about this year. What do you think your wardrobe needs are and how do they differ from other years? What are the new, possibly more casual items that you will need? Maybe you don't know and you need some help with clarity on the holes in your wardrobe.
I have already started to schedule some tentative in-home closets for mid-October, with the hope and understanding that things will continually improve in NYC. If you would like to pencil in a date, maybe November feels better for you, or if a virtual session feels more comfortable. please reach out.
In the meantime stay safe and well!
