What I am not buying for Spring
Diane Pollack
I have spring fever and I am excited to buy some new items.
I go to the stores and I look online and I think "I really don’t like a lot of things and there is nothing to buy". I am not into the trends this season.
(Warning: It sounds like it is all about me, but it is really not.)
HERE IS WHAT I PERSONALLY HATE.
High waist pants. They tell you they are flattering and they are totally lying.
Sneakers with everything.
Straight leg and baggy jeans. Also, horribly unflattering. When the models look heavy, need I say more?
HERE ARE SOME TRENDS THAT I RESPECT BUT THEY DON’T WORK FOR ME AND MY PERSONAL STYLE. (Take note here, as you may like some of these trends for yourself.)
Matching sweater sets. Cami with a cardi or sweater with a midi skirt or PJ pants.*
Pilgrim collar and Victorian-style blouses.
Polo collar tops.
The new hybrid trouser. Career style pants with an elastic and/or drawstring waist.*
Traditional florals and ditsy prints.
*These are the answers to having worn casual clothes for the past year and now having to polish up your look without sacrificing comfort. Good office casual options.
So, on one hand, I feel like there is nothing to buy, but then there is (keep reading).
So why am I telling you all this? Because you don’t have to like every trend and some seasons you will be less excited about them.
I always say that “Trends are suggestions and not mandates”. So only buy what you like, and some years, there will be fewer options that work for you.
So here are some things I am excited to buy.
Square toe sandals
Thong sandals with heels
Kick flare jeans
Jumpsuits
Bright colors and fun prints.
Additionally, I look back on my spring trends from last year, and since many did not get much wear, I think these are all still good trends for this year.
I also want to add that for the past few years we have been hearing that skinny jeans are out and yet they still appear as the most shown and sold jeans in the stores. So hold on to those babies, I am.
Since coming out of last year is like no other, I also want to give some insight into how fashion will be evolving.
1) Get ready for the roaring twenties of the twenty-first century we are coming out of hibernation with bold style. Say hello to glitz and glam.
2) The industry is changing for good and for the better. There are more conscious efforts in being environmentally conscious, sustainability, transparency, recycling, upcycling, renting, and a focus on black, women, Latinx, and other minority-owned businesses.
