What's in for Fall 2024?

Well, it is that time of year again. 

Now I know that many of you do not like the word trend or trendy. But you do want to feel fresh and updated, right?

And many trends are also classics, can you say “trench coat, ballet flats, stripes, Red…”?

For those new to STYLEMPOWER, I always say that “trends are suggestions and not mandates”. I love a good trend. And there are also plenty that are a hard “no” for me.

So, read on to know what is happening this season. From there you can figure out what works for you and what you want to add to your wardrobe to update it.

OUTWEAR – Scarf coats, capes, barn jackets, trenches, longline coats, Pea coats, big fur, leather, suede & shearling.

PANTS– Wide leg, barrel shape, straight leg, cuffed denim, Capri pants, tailored shorts (try them with a matching blazers for a modern take on suiting).

SKIRTS – Longer more modest lengths. Don’t worry, minis have not gone away. A-line skirts. Pleated skirts are both classic and on-trend. Some even combo the pleats with flat fabric to create a more updated version.

TOPS –  Ladylike Boucle Jackets, and feminine bow blouses. Classic Fair Isle sweaters. In contrast: sexy off-the-shoulder tops and sweaters and modern asymmetrical necklines.

SHOES – Pointy toe for all style shoes. Not only is it sexy, but it elongates your leg. Loafers continue, choose from the classic to the edgier platform or lug sole. Also under preppy classics are Oxford and Derby shoes. And those ballet flats and Mary Janes are great for the transitional weather. Wedges are showing up. T-straps are becoming more prominent. Boots & Booties a big "YES".

BAGS -  Suede bags, bowling bags, top handles, and slouchy boho, to name a few.

PATTERNS – Heritage checks and plaids that always look good in wooly fabrications. And then something that never goes out of style, but is coming in strong this fall is the Leopard print.

FABRIC– Sheers are still going strong. Corduroy, suede, and satin. Velvet and metallic will come in for the holiday season.

DETAILS – Bows, lace, studs, fringe, shearling, and fur trim.

COLORS include – Red, Burgundy, Olive, Brown, Rusts, Deep Plum, Teal, and surprisingly pastels. Look for Butter Yellow as a new one.

ACCESSORIES – Belts are back to highlight the waist. The classic pearls are back in new iterations. Earrings are modern bold and chunky. The necklace on the satin cord is back.

THEMES – Feminine details, Preppy styles like rugby tops, twinsets, and pencil skirts. Western shows up in shirting, boots, and fringe details. The English Country theme combines boho & prep styles. 60's styles are mod. Utility also continues for that effortlessly casual look. The grampa sweater becomes more eclectic (think mixed with 80’s bold patterns). Mob Wife glam, combines, furs, animal prints & stilettos. Quiet luxury vs Day Glam, you choose.

STYLIST TIPS

• Don’t get rid of your classic prints and patterns like polka dots, stripes, and leopards.  They are timeless unless they have a very specific silhouette that would date them.

• Wear a monochromatic color head-to-toe for a clean and sophisticated look.

• Sheers are sex and they can be worn by anyone and even to the office. Layer your look: for tops, you can wear a vest with sheer sleeves or have the sheer hem sticking out below an outer layer. For skirts you will do the same with the hem, it will just have a shorter lining so the sheerness shows at the bottom. If you don’t want to style these sheer pieces, look for pieces already designed with strategic sheerness for coverage.

• Why not try a pair of brown jeans to update your casual wardrobe for the season?

• If you wore the vests solo in the warmer weather, layer them with a thin knit or shirting for the colder weather (seasonal fabric permitting).

• A great way to add more style to an item that comes with a self-fabric belt. Swap out the belt for one of your own.
